Is GPT Image 2.5 free?
Short answer: you can try it without paying. You should not plan a whole catalog on that try. Official access and this site are priced in different ways.
This is the money page. It is not an API guide. If you came here with a wallet question, you are in the right file.
On ChatGPT
Images 2.5 is not a standalone product you buy from a shelf. OpenAI has been rolling it out inside ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. What you can generate, and how often, follows your ChatGPT plan and whatever limits they have in place that week.
That means “is it free?” at the official door is really “what does my ChatGPT account already include?” A Plus or business seat is not the same as a free chat account. OpenAI can also change those limits. We will not pretend we set them.
If your only goal is to stay inside the official product, log into ChatGPT and look at what your account offers. This page cannot beat that screen.
On this site
We wanted a way to try the workflow without creating an account first. So the first 1K image is free. No card. After that, we ask you to sign in.
A new account currently starts with 8 credits. A 1K image costs 10, 2K costs 20, 4K costs 40. So the signup gift is a head start, not a hidden extra print. We would rather say the arithmetic than let the word “free” do too much work.
If a generation fails before it starts — the upstream request is rejected, or the service does not answer — we put the credits back. You should not pay for a picture you never got. If something looks wrong on your bill, write to contact@gptimages25.net and we will look at the ledger with you.
Basic, Pro, and Max
Credits refresh with the plan. The homepage has the live toggle for yearly versus monthly. Yearly is the cheaper way to sit here if you already know you will keep using it; monthly is the way to sit here if you do not.
| Plan | Yearly price | Credits / year | Roughly, at 1K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $9.9 / month, billed yearly | 13,000 | up to 1,300 images |
| Pro | $19.9 / month, billed yearly | 40,000 | up to 4,000 images |
| Max | $34.9 / month, billed yearly | 93,000 | up to 9,300 images |
Monthly list prices are higher: $19.9, $39.9, and $69.9. If you are still deciding, that is a hint. Try a month, or even just the first image, before you prepay a year.
Basic is for learning the workflow — a product shot you redo six times, a poster you are still wording. Pro is the one we see people pick when images become a daily habit. Max is for catalogs and campaigns, when waiting in a slower lane costs more than the seat.
2K and 4K are available on the paid plans. They cost more credits because they cost more to run. Start in 1K, then raise the size when the composition is already right. Spending 40 credits to discover the bottle is facing the wrong way is a habit you only need once.
A calmer way to choose
If you are not sure, do not buy Max to feel serious. Make the free image. If the style is wrong, you have lost twenty seconds. If the style is right and you want another, sign in and look at Basic.
If you already know you will generate every weekday, Pro is the honest middle. If a studio is emptying a shot list, Max exists so you are not topping up in a panic on a Thursday.
Commercial use still has to respect our terms and other people’s rights. A paid plan is not a license to copy a living photographer’s picture, or to put a real person’s face in an ad they did not agree to. That part is not a pricing question, but it is the question people skip when they are staring at a credit balance.
